I could not woo women during my undergraduate years – Comic actor Saka

Hafiz Oyetoro aka Saka, speaks with Samuel Abulude of Leadership about his child hood story, personal life and how he finally made it big Nollywood.

What has Saka been up to lately?

I have been acting and imparting my students at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED). I have been travelling around, doing what I love doing for decades now. My production titled We We, a TV comedy series with my students, is still in the works as a fire outbreak in my office destroyed the scripts and other vital documents. However, it should be out before the end of the year. I also compose songs; apart from TV commercials that I’m known for. We just did the MTN Yello jingle last month and as regards movies, they are numerous. I was part of a movie by Afiz Owo and Abelejayan, the sociopolitical comedy will be back soon with fresh episodes.

How was growing up like?

I hail from Adegbola-Iseyin in Iseyin town, Oyo State. I was born to Pa Dauda Oyetoro and my mother, Abike Oyetoro. I am the 4th out of 10 kids and I am the only child of my mother. I attended Baptist Day Secondary School, Iseyin. From there I gained admission to University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, to study Dramatic Arts. Now I have an M A in African Studies from the University of Ibadan and a post graduate degree from Lagos State University (LASU). I’m presently pursuing my doctorate- M Phil Literature of African Studies at the University of Ibadan.

Growing up in a village setting was a bitter-sweet experience. I grew up in the home of an uncle who drove fear into me when correcting my mistakes. My uncle misconstrued respect as creating fear and I became so timid that I carried that baggage into the university. So ,on the Ife campus, I was a loner and could not socialise.

In my year two or so, we needed to do a departmental stage production and I was given a role, but because of my usual timidity-I could not deliver and this became a concern for me. E pass stage fright my broda. Thankfully, one of my lecturers, Chuck Mike, an African American scholar, came to my rescue. Mr Mike, a revered threatre practitioner in the 80s, tutored and mentored me and many others. He took me to University of Ibadan for speech therapy and I had to see a speech expert- Mrs Ajayi- every Saturday.

In 1986, I was part of a departmental production tagged ‘A toast to Wole Soyinka’. My first major production was in UI and it was a stage play titled, Raisin In the Sun. Wole Obadeyi, Yinka Akanbi and Gbenga Iwindapo were my colleagues then. The first theatre group I was part of was Akewi-Ebedi Theatre Group. For my final year project, I looked at theatre in Nigeria using Babasala as my case study. I met him at Orisun Cinema in Abeokuta. I appeared in my first home video during my 300 level as a student and was paid N1, 500- big money then.

Considering how timid you were, did you date during your university days?
I couldn’t ask women out during my undergraduate days. I was that timid; but I did have two failed relationships. My past relationships haunted me and I decided not to have anything to do with women, concentrating instead on my academic career and stage plays. I was part of Comic Palace Production, where Yinka Akanni, Muyiwa Amodu were my colleagues in 2002. I used to do a one-man drama as that was the only way I could express myself.

I met my wife, Olaide Saidat (Oyetoro) in AOCOED and finally got married at the age of 40. My wife was a final year student when I first met her and for me, it was love at first sight. She had come to my office for something and I got her name down. Later, I spoke to her saying, beyond being her lecturer I would like to be her friend. She said okay, thinking I was unserious. What attracted me to Olaide was that she looked humble and appeared to be a good Muslim. She is a graduate of mathematics and has made a great home for me and our two kids. I love her so much. My friend, Gbenga Iwindapo aided in assuring her that I was the man for her. God has given me a woman who shares my vision. I don’t joke with my family.

Why did you “port” from Etisalat to MTN?

Ordinarily I’m not supposed to speak on this because it involves two big telecom brands, but I will put it this way: at a point, I was no longer feeling fulfilled with the former company’s endorsement and there is nothing you can do if you are not happy. The other brand approached me and we agreed on terms. The lesson I learnt from that phase is that- don’t compromise your emotional instability- follow your passion.

Does teaching theatre arts add to your professionalism as an actor?

Of course it has a lot of advantages! I act and I go to class to review my performance. Even my students criticise my performances, telling me the mistakes I made and what I could have done to make it better. Acting and teaching is fun for me. My success story is inseparable from AOCOED, who took me in as a lecturer. My friend, Gbenga Iwindapo aided in getting me into the college. He was part of House Apart. Iwindapo brought me to Lagos and he was my HOD.

I have become better and fulfilled since I got here (talking about lecturing at Adeniran Ogusanya College of Education). I’m a product of different distinguished scholars who molded me into who I am today. Chuck Mike found me and bailed me out of timidity syndrome; Professor Femi Osofisan, Wale Ogunyemi and Professor Wole Soyinka all tutored me.

What are the challenges facing actors in this clime?

They are numerous. We are not given the respect we deserve here. Apart from the poor pay, actors and moviemakers go through a lot to get their movies out there. The law governing piracy is weak as well as its enforcement. We need a body, a unifying body that we can call our own. The MOPICCON bill has been there and when it is passed, we hope it solves a lot of issues and gives the movie industry a blueprint. Producers should go back to school and stop begging for money from marketers. They should know their worth and act likewise. We need to come together.

Again, there is a disturbing trend in Nollywood, especially in the Yoruba movie industry. The issue is disturbing for us, the theatre practitioners who went to school to study this trade. Marketers have hijacked the role of movie producers and directors. Marketers should not determine for us who plays this role or that. This issue has reached a disturbing height and unless these marketers are put in their place, we will not go far artistically and technically. Marketers should focus on hyping and sponsoring movies!

Yes, some marketers finance our movies like in the Yoruba genre of Nollywood. but these people have become demi-gods, dictating to directors and producers how a movie should go. This is wrong. In business, buyers determine the price of your commodity and how they want the commodity to meet their needs, not the other way round.

What are 3 things people don’t know about you?

I want my fans to know that I’m not a snub; unlike what some people think. I’m a very shy person but when I’m on stage, I’m a different person and I was the Outstanding Actor Of the Year in 1981.

I Dislike Musicians Who Become Pompous With Fame-Daddy Showkey

It is common knowledge that some new generation musicians have been accused of being too proud .Daddy Showkey says that's the major thing he dislikes about the music industry. The respected musician who is known to be very humble told Yes International Magazine
Hmmm! It is when I see people that were nothing before and when they become something, they start feeling big or when I see pompous people. I don’t like that! I like humble people. So, as a musician, I believe you must be humble because it is the people that made you to be what you are.
First of all, I grew up in a neighbourhood that is very rough and tough and I did not have any belief in my life that I will become a successful entertainer and I did not even have any belief that I will become anything in life. But any time I remember my past and that I came out from nothing to something, it keeps me going; I will always be happy because my past gives me joy and that’s why every time that I go to my neighbourhood (Ajegunle), if I see the area, I will say ah, ‘Jegunle! Because it is not easy; it is not easy, my brother!

Lady Gaga Steps Out in Bizzare Looking Shoes

Joseph Yobo's Wife tattoos her husband's name on her leg!

Signs She's Ready To Sleep With You

You’ve been seeing each other a few times a week and you’re wildly attracted to her. She keeps giving you what you think are signals that she’s ready to seal the deal and go past third base, but are you sure she’s really ready? Before you make an assumption and push away what could be the greatest sex of your life, check out these signs — straight from experts and real women — that give you a clue into what she’s really thinking, and if she really wants you (now):

1. She says, “I feel so comfortable around you”
Relationship and sex expert Vanessa Marin says those five little words are a signal that she’s starting to think about having sex. Women need to feel secure and like they can trust you before they’re ready to hop into bed, especially if they’re eyeing you for potential boyfriend material. If she slips these words at the end of your next date, suggest a nightcap at your place or hers for the next time you see one another, and talk about how you feel around her, too. This will open up the conversation and you might just get an invitation to the bedroom.

2. She starts initiating sleepovers.
Here’s a good rule of thumb with women from 28-year-old single gal Heather from Chicago: “If I don’t want you in my apartment, you won’t be there. If we’ve been dating for a few weeks and I feel like I might be ready to have sex, I’ll invite the guy back to my place and suggest cooking dinner.” Don’t be too presumptuous if you make it upstairs, and wait for her to make the move (she will, we promise!); but remember, women generally want to have sex for the first time with a new guy in their own space, and she’ll be watching how you act in her home, too. Ask questions, make yourself somewhat comfortable and make sure you pack a toothbrush, just in case.

3. She’s touching you more.
At dinner, while you’re walking, when you’re making out or at any point when you’re together, a girl who is starting to be really into you won’t be able to keep her hands off of you, says Marin. Physical acts of affection usually demonstrate that she’s feeling increasingly more attracted to you — and thus, might want to get even more physical behind closed doors. The best thing you can do is return the gesture: hold her hand, kiss her randomly, tell her how wild you are about her. This will reassure her that you’re on the same page…. and ready for the next level, too.

4. She’s asking about your past sexual history.
When a lady is about to add another number to her list, she starts to wonder about just how many girls you’ve brought home over the years. While it isn’t healthy to talk extensively about past relationships, relationship expert Sharon O’Neil says it is a good idea to talk about your past in terms of health. Most women will ask you to get tested for STDs and/or go together to the clinic before you do the deed for the first time. If you’re interested in a relationship and want to take that next step together as a couple, then bring up the conversation yourself. This will show her just how serious you are and make her more comfortable once those results come in.

5. She’s asking if you’re exclusive.
You just had another great date followed by an everything-but session in bed. You’re dying to sleep with her but she rolls over and asks, “Are you seeing anyone else?” Though it might kill the moment for you, if you’re ready to make the move forward as a couple, this is the perfect time to talk openly about your expectations surrounding exclusivity and relationships. Most women would prefer to be exclusive before sleeping with you — or at the very least, be exclusively sleeping together.

6. She’s telling you about what she’s not wearing.
According to 26-year-old Laura in NYC, when she’s ready to have sex, she’ll start talking a little dirtier via text. “Sometimes I’ll send something like ‘I didn’t wear panties today, thinking of you’ to the guy I’m dating to give him the clue that I’m ready to go all the way,” she says. When a woman starts being a bit more forward and inviting you into sexual conversations, she’s testing to see how you will respond and if you’ll play along too.

7. The biggest sign? An enthusiastic “yes!”
Marin says this one is a no-brainer. If you ask about having sex and express how much you care about her and you want to see the relationship go somewhere (and c’mon, don’t play her, you need to be honest here) — and she responds with an enthusiastic “yes!” — then, there’s your answer! She’s ready — so make it great for her.

Biography of the week - Clarence Peters

Clarence and Mum 'Clarion Chukwura'

Clarence Peters (born Clarence Abiodun Peters) is a Nigerian music video director, film maker and cinematographer.  Born into a prominent family. He is the son of Sir Shina Peters, a musician, and Clarion Chukwura, an actress. He obtained his primary education from BI primary school, and his secondary education from Government College Ikorodu. After finishing secondary school, he worked at Alpha Visions for three years. He graduated from City Varsity, a film school in Cape Town, South Africa. He majored in Cinematography while studying at City Varsity. Growing up, Peters was a footballer. In an interview posted on the Daily Times of Nigeria, his mother opened up about wanting to abort him while he was in her womb, but changed her mind because of her belief that Peters was the reincarnation of her father who she lost when she was 11 years old. Upon returning to Nigeria from South Africa, Peters teamed up with a group of filmmakers to establish the Alliance Film Company, a company now known as the Allied Film Company. Peters worked with the company for a year, and eventually started his own production company. Peters has cited Steven Spielberg, Hype Williams, DJ Tee, Akin Alabi, Wudi Awa, Kemi Adetiba, Sesan, Aje, and AK 1 as people he admires. He is the founder and CEO of CAPital Dream Pictures, a production company that specialises in the realms of the performing arts, new media art, film, television, radio, and video. He is also the founder and CEO of Capital Hill Records, a record label home to Chidinma, Tha Suspect, and Illbliss. He was ranked 2nd on Channel O's Top 10 Most Visionary Music Video Directors list. In 1998, he was involved in a Mobil sponsored music video for a documentary on AIDS. He directed 40 episodes of the TV series Everyday People. Peters has directed music videos for recording artists across an array of genres and generations, including Darey, Durella, and Wizkid. In 2012, he shot the music video for Shuga's theme song which was recorded by Boneye from P-Unit, Banky W., Wizkid, and L-Tido. Peters has also shot a good number of documentaries, TV commercials, short films, and TV features. In April 2014, Absolut Vodka honoured Peters for his creativity.

Capital Hill records
While in secondary school, Peters met Tha Suspect, a record producer and recording artist. The two started a group after becoming acquainted with each other. Capital Hill Records was formed after Peters returned to Nigeria from South Africa. He and Suspect decided to look for a female artist who could rap and sing. At a later date, Peters signed Kel to his record label after being introduced to her by Terry tha Rapman. In September 2010, Kel had a misunderstanding with Peters, which led to the termination of her recording contract. The rapper managed to release her debut studio album, The Investment, while signed to the label. Latterly, the label partnered with the Goretti Company, a management company owned by illBliss.

Controversy
In January 2014, a copyright infringement was levelled against Peters after the release of Tiwa Savage's "Eminado" video. He allegedly stole the vintage nature of the "Asinamali" video, which was released by Tumi and the Volume to honour the artistic works of Seydou Keïta. Tumi took to Twitter to slander Peters. He urged his fans to shine a light on the issue. Savage's manager and husband, Tunji "Tee Billz" Balogun, shed some light on the controversy. He said they never knew that the video's concept was adopted from another video, and were surprised as everyone else.
After the release of Ice Prince's "VIP" music video on 21 June 2013, Peters was accused of plagiarising the contents of Slaughterhouse's "My Life" video and implementing them into the "V.I.P" video. In February 2014, Ice Prince defended the actions of Peters and said that he told Peters the ideas to shoot. He also said that if anyone has a problem with the situation, they should hold him responsible.

7 Things Every Real Man Does When He’s Serious About You:

Ladies, if Your Man isn’t Doing at least 5 out of these 7 Things, Block his Number & MOVE ON!

7 Things Every Real Man Does When He’s Serious About You:

 1. He apologizes for being late or not calling you back when he said he would.
He is concerned about what you think of him and he tried to keep his word, and says he’s sorry when he doesn’t, and… provides a viable explanation. “I couldn’t pick up your call because I was in a meeting with my boss.”

 2. He wants to help!
He doesn’t run when you mention moving or having to do something. A man who is into you will look for ways to help you so he can be around you. “I can fix that chair for you

 3. He remembers things that you mention and follows up by asking about them.

 4. He introduces you to people.
When you are out and encounter friends or family, he does not hesitate to say, “Hey,  meet FEMALE OWAS.”

 5. He makes real plans with you.
He thinks ahead about things you can do together. If you’re just an affair, most of the time he spends with you is spur-of-the-moment. A guy that is truly interested will plan and ask ahead of time.

 6. Your career matters to him, too.
He genuinely wants you to be happy. He may offer to help you study or learn a new app you need for your job. He is supportive and encourages you to move forward.

 7. He likes and offers affection.
He will hold your hand in public, put his arm around you while you’re watching a movie or TV and welcome hugs and kisses from you.
Men know when they really like a lady or just messing around with her and they will show it consciously and even unconsciously. Watch for these signals cos it means he is into you.

Relationship And General Views: Why Many Don’t Get It Right

Is it not funny that many girls claim they have what it takes to make a relationship work and then when they are in one, they will flop and then keep blaming the guy for not making it work. They will treat the guy with “general” knowledge of what they know about relationships and then expect it to work. You’ve heard every guy likes something and then you go, my boyfriend must definitely like the same things to. You will never try to find out who that one guy is but you keep wallowing in your ignorance waiting for a miracle to happen.
You probably expect every man to want to take advantage of you because it happened to some people close to you and they have hammered it in your ears that men will forever be after what’s underneath your skirt and never your heart. One man treated you badly and then you dump all the frustration you are feeling on your next. Maybe your next loves you enough to help you get over your ex. Maybe he doesn’t even want sex from you as badly as you have imagined. Maybe he is just a very good guy who loves you and then you push him away because you were too blind to see beyond your pains. And no matter how hard you think you are trying, you keep failing over and over again.
How do you expect it to work when he likes meat but because you read somewhere that men don’t like meat, you keep stuffing him with fish. And then when he is tired of eating fish, he flees. Then you go, all men are the same. Of course, they are the same, isn’t that what your general knowledge and wrong lessons for your past experience taught you? Till you learn to treat a man as his own person, you may never find fulfilment in that relationship.
It is even funnier when guys imagine all girls want are flashy things, money and all those fake glittering gold. You have assumed every girl will fall at your feet if you spoil them a bit. Maybe she did not even see the cash, she saw the way you showed so much concern about her welfare and she fell in love with that man that was attentive to her need and not the man raining cash on her. Is it bad if you spend on her? You love her right, then you should see no wrong in spoiling or see it as a means to get her to sleep with you. We want love too, we want you to make us laugh and show us what it being her “Mr right” is. We want our friends to go green with envy at the way you treat us.
Don’t think because we seem to wear our emotions on our sleeves, we are foolish. We may have sex with you on the first night and that does not make us hoes. We like good things doesn’t mean we will dig your gold-well like your ex(es) did. We want to be fought for, we want you to cross the ocean for us if that is what we need as an evidence that you truly love us. We don’t want to wake up any day, thinking we are competing for your attention. We want you to make us laugh. We want you to be our everything.
We want to flaunt your love, wear it as one very expensive gem.. we don’t have to grovel or nag before we get you to have time for us. We want breakfast in bed, once in a while. We want surprise birthday parties and of course we want all those cakes and flowers and fluffy Teddy bears every valentine. But that is not the love we crave, so don’t think you know all about girls and then treat her as every other girl. Study her, pay attention to her. Girls are complicated, but also very simple. It takes a heart that truly cares about a woman to know a woman.
Point of all of these: nobody should be compared to the other. Till you’ve fully accepted that everyone is not the same person as the other, you will never get it right. If you are not ready to move on, stay by yourself and learn and conquer those pains. The worst thing you can ever do to your partner is to treat him or her as you had imagined they want to be treated.

Stripper who accused Drake of threatening her after unprotected sex apologizes

Stripper, Jhonni Blaze who filed a police report against Drake. She claimed they had unprotected sex for a week, then he started seeing another stripper behind her back. When she confronted him,he threatened her and even sent his goons to her house .She said he was scared she would spill their secret
Now, she is singing a different tune.In an audio interview with  Mad Hatta morning show ,she said
I would never talk bad about nobody and I have nothing bad to say about Drake. I still think he’s a phenomenal artist. The reason why we fell out was because we got into an argument. There’s nothing wrong with it, okay?
All these lies about me calling the police on him? I never actually called the police on Aubrey. I actually called the police because my friend came home and said two guys were looking for me. So I documented that and said, “for my protection.” And for some odd reason, people were looking me loony and I got fired from V Live (strip club). They wanted to give me time off and [said] that I had an illness, that I’m crazy and have an illness and that I need to take a break. So I told them to completely fire me, don’t come back at all, since I have an illness.
I’m not about to exaggerate the story. Me and him were just kicking it, being cool. I went to his concert, I watched him perform. We were just supposed to be friends and we had some disagreements, some things were said, some threats were being made as far as argument and that was it. And the only reason I exposed the [text] messages was to show people that we did have a cool relationship as far as, “Hey, how you doing? How’s everything? Hope all is well.” That was the only reason why I did expose those text messages.
When asked if she exposed him because he is  now seeing fellow stripper Lira Galore:
I don’t care about none..I don’t care if he fucked 50 bitches. I would’ve probably loved to f-ck them, too. I don’t give a f-ck about all that. I’m not jealous of nobody. If I wanted something from chest to butt, I’d buy it. If I wanted prettier teeth, I’d buy it. I don’t care about all that. The problem was that people kept adding me under her Instagram page and were like, “Wasn’t he just with you?” and I’m like, “So what? He’s single! He does what he wants. He could f-ck a hundred girls. That’s none of my business. The whole problem was that people saying I didn’t know who he was and that I was crazy. And that’s not the case when I chilled with this man the whole weekend.
I’m not trying to get publicity off of this. I don’t want no fame off this. I got my little bit of name and that’s all I need. I don’t care about all of that. I’m not about to bash this man and exaggerate and lie like them other b-tches like how Kat Stacks or these other people do and say, “Yeah! I’m pregnant for him!” and “Oooh look at me!” I’m not going to exaggerate that. No, I’m not pregnant. I’m not gonna bash him and that’s just that. And the social medias that’s lying on me can eat a penis.
Now as far as me putting it on IG, they linked it together. MediaTakeOut can’t even show a screenshot of me emailing them anything. The only thing that I sent was to one social media network and that was three messages of me and Drake and that I actually was like cool enough to be like, “Hey, I don’t want this man’s number exposed, so erase the last four digits of his number. I wasn’t trying to expose him, I was trying to show that, “Hey, I do know this dude and y’all need me to leave me the f-ck alone.”
We actually don’t even talk anymore. He has not hit me up, I don’t hit him up. We don’t speak at all because of probably this situation. But I’m not gonna sit here and bash him because he has people that I’m affiliated with also. I actually tried to reach out to his people and actually be like, “Hey, I’m gonna fix this and actually admit when I’m wrong I’m wrong.” But I didn’t actually do anything wrong. The stories got mixed up and they took it too far. I think it’s embarrassing on my behalf because I’m actually putting myself out there.
Yes, we messed around, we kicked it, and he moved on. We’re all grown people. Everybody has done stuff with people and moved on. Everybody act like this is something new. Everybody acting like children here. It’s not that serious.
HER APOLOGY
I apologize to the whole staff and whoever works with Drake. I apologize from my heart. I never meant to expose his messages. I don’t like being called crazy. It offends me because I may have a temper but I’m not crazy. And I apologize for all this stuff going on and that’s a genuine apology. But this man did not send anybody for me. I just felt that it was weird that happened at a time that me and him got into it. And I apologize for that and to his fans. So that’s me being a woman and that’s as real as I could be.
