“People Don’t Believe I’m a Lagosian Because I Don’t Act Yoruba Movies”

Following his declaration to run for political office in Lagos State – things haven’t exactly been hunky-dory for suave actor Desmond Elliott – who has found it hard to convince fans that he is really from Lagos state.
Speaking with City People on his reasons for joining politics, he explained that joining politics for him is an ambition he has been nursing for many years but only joined since this is one of the appropriate time to declare his intention. In his words..
“Politics has been in me for many years but I wanted a party which was progressive. My choice of APC was because its stronger and progressive. The party is one you can identify with. This is also a good platform and a good party. It has lots of programs that cater for people’s welfare. It has so much differentiated itself from all others. This is one of the reasons why I decided to join the party” he explained.
Elliot, who has been mocked for the recent inclusion of “Olushola” to his name revealed that he laughs when people say he is not from Lagos state.
“I am from Lagos state. My father is from Olowogbowo in Lagos Island but my mother is from Delta state. I refer to myself as being a Pan-African.
People don’t believe I am a Lagosian because I seldom act in Yoruba movies. And I didn’t include the Shola in my name. Then because my surname is also English, many couldn’t differentiate which made people confused of where exactly I am from. I am very detribalised. People of my constituency know my story and know where I come from. I have always used Shola in my primary school days. I went to Air Force Primary School in Plateau and later attended St John’s College, both in Jos. I proceeded to Lagos State University where I studied Economics and graduated in 2003.” he said.

BIOGRAPHY of the week - BOVI
22:03
No comments
As it is our culture at FACT NATION to bring to you the bio of top entertainers weekly.
This week, we present to you, BOVI UGBOMA popularly referred to simply as Bovi is a spectacular Nigerian comedian, director, producer, actor, and writer. He has featured in many comedy shows, TV programmes, and most recently, he brought the likes of international superstars, Ja Rule and Ashanti to perform in his 2014 Man on Fire concert which was a huge hit.

GROWING UP
Bovi was born on September 25th, 1979 and he hails from Delta State, Nigeria, however, he was born in Benin City. In his early days he attended UNIBEN staff schools for his primary education and after that, he attended three secondary schools including Edokpolor Grammer school here in Benin City, one at Ughelli North in Delta State. He then gained admission to study Theatre Arts at Delta State University, Abraka where he bagged his university degree.
CAREER
Work wise, Bovi started out early as a reporter at NTA where he served and then came down to Lagos in 2004 and that was the year his foray into the entertainment industry truly began. He worked as Richard Mofe Damijo’s (RMD) Personal Assistant from 2004 till 2006 and according to him, Damijo trained and mentored him during that period this were his word "I started working with RMD as his personal assistant after y graduation 2004. Working with him was supposed to throw me into the action in Nollywood, but he had other ideas. He practically groomed me and honed my skills in business administration, and once I was cooked, he allowed me to fly. I always knew I was going to do stand-up comedy, but at the time, there were no credible platforms to encourage comedians – that’s in relation to stage. So I decided to produce my own sitcom which was Extended family – that was the catch. Once the sitcom became a hit on TV, I climbed the stage and the acceptance was there. If I wasn’t a face on TV, I guess my acceptance in stand up comedy would have taken longer than it did.".
He later went on to set up his own production team in September 2006.
Bovi’s comedy career truly kickstarted in April 2007 when he started airing the popular sitcom, ‘Extended Family’ which he featured in, conceptualized and produced. By 2008, Bovi is one of the most sought after comedians in Nigeria. He featured in Opa williams’ Night of a Thousand Laughs, Basketmouths’ Basketmouth Uncensored, ‘Lord of the Ribs’ and AY Live. Bovi has worked with top Nigerian comedy giants including AY, I Go Dye, I Go Save, Buchi, Basketmouth, Julius Agwu and Okey Bakassi. His Man on Fire show which began in 2013 has become one that Nigerians are looking forward to every year.
Presently, he runs a production house called Kountry Kulture Networks which delves into production for television, film and even events.
FAMILY LIFE
Bovi is currently married to his wife, Christabel Ugboma and the two have been blessed with two children.

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Bovi has won Comedian of the year at the Culture People Awards and the Ghana Awards. He has also won Best Youth Comedian at the Standup Comedians Award.

1. Do not date any guy out of sympathy. It is not worth it. It has never worth the pain. Ladies beware!
2. Thou shall not do revenge relationship a.k.a let me show my boyfriend I can flirt too. Ladies, that is inflicting more injuries on yourself
3. Do not depend on any man for your daily needs. It has brought more pains than joy to some ladies. Ladies, please!
4. Do not, I mean never u fight over a man. Such men usually don’t have regard for ladies. Ladies, you can ask around if you are in doubt!
5. Do not remain in a violent relationship. You are supposed to be his sweetheart not a punching bag. If he’s looking for whom to punch, refer him to other men of his size. Ladies, abi?
6. Thou shall not give IT to him. If he wants IT that desperately, he should put a ring on it. Funny enough, men can wait if they see your worth it. True!
7. Be bold when men toast you. Stop cutting flowers or drawing circles with your leg. Enjoy the ‘toasting’. Don’t forget to pay attention to the pick up lines. Some pick up lines can crack your ribs.
8. If you are not sure of your man especially If the relationship is still new, never take your girlfriend to his house or give her his number or BB pin. Very risky
9. As soon as you can, let your man show his face to your people. Your sister or brother or mother. This is very key.
10. Material possessions are good but never let them be the number one factor in choosing a man.
11. Do not forget the golden rule. Always sit like a woman. Some men act like babies when a woman is not properly seated. You know what I mean!
12. Never think you can trap a man with good sex. Fou fou fou… foul! It is an aberration.
13. Be good to men but be firm. Yes firm but don’t scare them away.
14. Men are not in short supply.
Don’t let them deceive you. Don’t believe anything in the contrary. Don’t be stampeded into a relationship.
15. If your purpose for financing a man is to keep him, that could be a big mistake. Finance for the right reasons.
16. Men are not the same. Don’t listen to “men are the same jare!” It’s a lie! How many men have you met out of about six billion
people on earth? You see am nau, abi?
17. Adventures can be sweet. However, never embark on a long trip to meet a man without informing someone. Never!
18. Guys have a way of saying “don’t let anybody know about us yet.” If the relationship is up to three months and counting, somebody should know about it jor! Better things,
19. They say good girls love bad boys. And as a good girl, you are looking for a bad boy to love? OYO for you! Let bad girls love bad boys and good girls love good boys. Nobody should use your head to catch a bullet.
20. Enjoy being single. It does not last forever.

Ay The Comedia , recently spoke on the divorce syndrome in the entertainment industry with PUNCH writer, Geoff Iyatse.
To emphasise his devotion to his family, the comedian said he would not allow his tight schedules come between him and his commitment to building a blissful marriage with his wife, Mabel.
“The craziness of my schedule is indeed a challenge but it is my duty to make quality time for my wife and that is what I strive to do to keep the relationship continually fresh,” he continued.
Notable names in the entertainment industry have been mentioned as possible candidates for different political offices in 2015. But AY said he would rather continue to fish in the entertainment industry than to ‘deflect’. AY said he would be making mistakes to seek new opportunities in politics simply because fellow entertainers were going that way, describing it as a game it did not understand.
“I do not know how to play the game at the moment”, he said to stress his resolve to stick to familiar turf.

Eleven Beauty Habits That Will Give You Wrinkles Later
22:03
No comments
Wrinkles are a part of aging—and life. While we know to expect wrinkles as we get older, some of the battle has nothing to do with age. Your beauty routines and habits can impact wrinkling as well. See the bad habits that affect your skin’s aging process so you can cut them out ASAP.
1. Not Removing Makeup
When you sleep in your makeup, you’re basically asking for wrinkles. The makeup and environmental pollutants you accumulate during the day seep into your pores, breaking down collagen and elastin. This can speed up the aging process and leave you with fine lines and wrinkles. Cleanse and moisturize your skin every night before bed.
2, Biting your lips
If your lips are constantly chapped and split, making lipstick difficult to apply smoothly, it could be that you're unconsciously biting or licking your lips. Constantly moistening the delicate skin on the lips makes them drier than if they are left alone.
A good way to break the vicious cycle is to keep a delicious lip balm or moisturizer handy and reach for that instead of licking your lips when they feel dry
3. Picking
Stop picking at pesky zits, and let them come out on their own or use natural products to help eliminate them. Any time you pick or pull at your skin, you’re causing damage and creating irritation, scars, and yes, even wrinkles.
4. Stretching Your Skin to Apply Makeup
This practice creates wrinkles—and is generally frowned upon in the makeup world. “You should do your makeup how everyone else is going to see you, and hopefully it’s not with your mouth stretched opened and eyebrows lifted so you can put on your mascara,” says makeup artist Donna Kelly. “Don’t pull on your eyes and stretch them so you can put on your eyeliner. It’s about moving your whole face when you’re applying makeup, not stretching it so it’s flat.”
5. Skipping Sunscreen
We’ve all been told to never skip the sunscreen, but it’s often tempting when many of us spend our days indoors. Even a few minutes of sun exposure can lead to a breakdown of collagen, though, and that leads to fine lines and wrinkles. “Wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine, so that you don’t get sun damage. Choose an SPF 30 and one that has zinc oxide or titanium dioxide,” says Debra Jaliman, M.D., a New York-based dermatologist and author of Skin Rules.
6. Sleeping
If you sleep on your face, you can get sleep wrinkles from the pillow. “It’s best to sleep on a satin pillowcase that slides across your face,” says Jaliman. “The other alternative is to sleep on your back.”
7. Smoking
Smoking is the most common cause of wrinkles. “There have been studies of twins that showed proof of this in stunning detail,” says Joel Schlessinger, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon and founder of LovelySkin.com. “So skip cigarettes and lose the wrinkles!”
8. Your Diet
If you want to keep your skin healthy and young, the old saying that you are what you eat is definitely true. Eating too much sugar and high-glycemic foods doesn’t just impact your weight—it could make you look older, too. “Through a damaging process called glycation, sugar molecules attach to the proteins in your skin (including collagen), causing them to become stiff and malformed,” says Roshini Rajapaksa, M.D., a gastroenterologist, balanced health advocate, and co-founder of TULA. “This results in a loss of facial elasticity, as well as contours, puffiness, and fine lines.
Refined sugar and other simple carbohydrates also trigger inflammation throughout the body by causing insulin levels to skyrocket. Inflammation produces enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, which leads to sagging and wrinkles.” So cut down on refined sugar and simple carbohydrates—your skin will thank you!
9. Drinking
All alcohol dehydrates the skin, explains James C. Marotta, M.D., a dual-board-certified facial plastic surgeon. This means your skin will appear less plump and fresh the morning after you drink alcohol. Over time, your skin will lose elasticity and form wrinkles due to a lack of hydration. “Additionally, alcohol can have a huge negative impact on your vitamin A level, which is a very important antioxidant for your skin and body, and it is vital in the regeneration of new cells. Vitamin A is also extremely important in the production of collagen. When you have lower amounts of collagen, you lose elasticity in your skin,” says Marotta. Collagen and elasticity keep your skin supple, taut, and looking young.
10. Chewing Gum
“Gum chewing produces a type of wrinkle that I see quite often on the lower mouth,” says Schlessinger. Additionally, it causes other issues in the mouth structure.
11 Sharing make-up
One of the easiest ways unwittingly to pick up germs and infections such as conjunctivitis, lurking, for example, on an eyeliner pencil. The herpes simplex virus can also be passed on in this way. Make-up counters should always provide disposable applicators for everything, from lipstick to eyeshadow
These habit are easy to give up in the name of preserving your skin.
